A number of administrative positions are available each season to both students and professionals, including marketing, graphic design, box office, front of house, and office assistants.

Odyssey Theatre, Ottawa’s premier professional summer theatre company, is seeking a dynamic person to join our team as an Arts Management Intern. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about the arts who wants to gain training and experience for a career in arts management.

Currently in its 38th season, Odyssey is an award-winning company renowned for its innovative style of theatre, incorporating masks, Commedia dell’Arte, clown and puppetry. Our programs include our annual Theatre Under the Stars, a New Play Creation program, training workshops for artists and youth and digital theatre projects.

Working with the General Manager and Artistic Director, you will receive training and experience in diverse areas of managing a professional arts company. You will assist with marketing, grant writing, fund raising, communications and outreach, web and social media, special events and general office duties. The position could be extended through the summer as Front of House Manager for our open-air theatre season in Strathcona Park.

We are looking for a well-organized, positive, and energetic person who wants to contribute to the growth of theatre in Ottawa. Candidates should be passionate about the arts and have:

  • A university or college degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Good organizational skills, an attention to detail and an ability to manage priorities;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work independently and as part of a professional team and with volunteers; and,
  • Experience in working with social media, websites, and digital platforms.

The Intern receives training and experience in writing, project management, planning,  fundraising, volunteers, social media, and special events, along with networking opportunities. This position will prepare you for positions in the arts or not-for-profit sectors.


  • From February 6 2023 to March 31, 2023 (possible extension to end of August 2023).
  • $650.00/week (40 hours/week, flexibility to work some evenings and weekends)

In accordance with the grant that makes this position possible, candidates must be under 30 years of age, be a recent graduate, register with Young Canada Works and be approved prior to hiring. Do you have an interest in the arts? Do you have a passion for strong writing? Join us as a Communications Assistant. 

We are looking for a dedicated, creative, and enthusiastic person who is an excellent writer to help bring Odyssey’s digital and live performances and workshops to audiences across Canada.  You will join a creative and collaborative team and gain experience with an award-winning professional theatre.

Here at Odyssey Theatre, Ottawa’s award-winning mask and movement-based theatre, we blend classic and contemporary art forms and incorporate diverse cultures and traditions from around the world. This season, we are excited to launch an original fantasy audio-drama series – The Other Path Podcast. We are also staging online workshops for youth and supporting the creation of new Canadian works through our live new play workshops.

We are now hiring a Communications Assistant. The successful candidate is between the ages of 18-30. You are a strong writer – someone who can capture and present the imagination of Odyssey’s work in the written word.  You will help promote our podcast and other performances and workshops by researching, writing, and editing of promotional materials, as well helping with exciting digital marketing and social media campaigns. The successful candidate will be able to work remotely online for the present time.


Dates:  June – August 2022 (flexible).

Salary: $525/week (35 hours/wk)


Duration: 8 weeks

Location:  Working remotely online

The successful candidate will support exciting theatre by:

  • Writing and editing copy for marketing and information materials, our web site, and for proposals and emails
  • Conducting online research and analysis
  • Developing written and visual creative materials (including video) for social media
  • Preparing and monitoring online ads
  • Conducting marketing research and analytics
  • Contacting community groups to create partnerships
  • Other related duties as needed

The successful candidate must have:

  • Excellent writing skills (English) and a passion for writing
  • Experience or courses in Theatre, English, Creative Writing, Marketing, Communications, or similar
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working with social media, web sites and various digital platforms

Join us as a Production Assistant.

We are looking for a dedicated, creative and enthusiastic person with a passion for theatre and the arts who wants to be a part of producing our 2021 online theatre season. You will join a creative and collaborative team and gain experience with an award-winning professional theatre.

We are Ottawa’s award-winning mask and movement-based theatre. We blend classic and contemporary art forms and incorporate diverse cultures and traditions from around the world. Due to the pandemic, we are producing two online theatre series: a fantasy podcast and a web series on Commedia dell’Arte.

The Production Assistant will work with the Artistic Director and Stage Manager to assist with technical and production requirements of running online theatre programs, running rehearsals and script workshops online, revising scripts to incorporate sound cues and directions, and helping coordinate, schedule and manage the online requirements of our readings, events, podcasts and webinars.

Dates:  To be negotiated Duration: 8 weeks (may be extended).
Salary: $535/week (35 hours/wk) Location: Remote

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist the Artistic Director and Stage Manager as required with virtual rehearsals and technical set-up of online events;
  • Manage the digital backstage during rehearsals, workshops and live programming;
  • Set up production elements;
  • Revise, format and distribute scripts to actors;
  • Source and organize props for sound effects;
  • Other related duties as required.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Training or experience in theatre or other performing arts (essential);
  • Knowledge of various social media and live streaming platforms;
  • Careful attention to detail;
  • Very strong organizational skills;
  • Positive, professional attitude to work with professional artists;
  • Ability to show initiative and extremely dependable;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Collaborative team player.
