Odyssey Theatre is a mask and physical arts theatre company in Ottawa at the forefront of contemporary masked performance and training in Canada. The company produces innovative theatre that inspires a wide-range of audiences that are drawn to the magic of our Theatre Under the Stars program in Strathcona Park.
For Odyssey, masks are a gateway to imaginative worlds where we can explore universal human issues through myth, folktale and satire. By collaborating with artists from diverse international masked theatre forms, we create ground-breaking productions that speak to people from all walks of life. Our plays are often enriched with Commedia dell’Arte, dance, puppetry, music and other physical theatre arts in ways that create the special world of each play and capture its theme.
We alternate between creating original contemporary plays and new translation-adaptations of international classics. Our company is a hub where creators, physical theatre artists, mask-makers, choreographers, directors and dramaturges from a variety of backgrounds can train, develop new plays, explore and share their art.
Where We Live and Work
Odyssey creates theatre on the traditional, unceded Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. We are grateful for this opportunity and for the generations of people who have taken care of this land for thousands of years.
We recognize the historical and ongoing oppressions of Indigenous peoples and offer our company as an ally for change and restitution. We partner with Indigenous artists and arts enthusiasts to share practices and resources and to build towards reconciliation.
