Youth Theatre Apprenticeship Program

Odyssey Theatre is offering you a chance to spend an unforgettable summer working with a professional theatre company.

We are looking for 10-12 bright, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals (of secondary school age) who would like to participate in Odyssey Theatre's Youth Theatre Apprenticeship Program.

For two months in the summer you will train and work alongside theatre professionals. Everyone receives an introduction to the theatre and the work we do here at Odyssey. Participants will then select one of these three areas as their focus for the summer: technical production; administration; or, performance. We will help you design a personal learning plan with achievable goals for the summer.

If you are interested in pursuing a career or going on to a University course in theatre, our Apprenticeship program is a great introduction to all that the theatre world has to offer.

You can learn about the technical side of theatre production with our production manager and set designer. You may want to help create Odyssey's award winning sets, assist with the lighting design, or work backstage as an Assistant Stage Manager on a professional theatre production; it's up to you.

Want to find out what it takes to keep a professional theatre company thriving? Odyssey's General Manager would be more than happy to have your help. Perhaps you would like to assist with our publicity and marketing campaign or help out with our fundraising drive and other administration strategies. Either way, you will work in our office in historic and vibrant "Arts Court" located in downtown Ottawa, steps away from the Byward Market and next door to the Rideau Centre.

If acting is your thing then we can give you real experience during a professional theatrical production. You will work with professional actors and learn the techniques of Commedia dell'Arte, Odyssey Theatre's distinct performance style.
In whatever area you choose as your specialty, you will receive training and guidance from a theatre professional as your own personal mentor. Everyone will receive special training in masked performance and Commedia during four workshops in August led by experienced Mask and Commedia artist and veteran instructor Alix Sideris.

You will not only receive professional training in a supportive environment, but you will also receive free tickets to our summer mainstage production. This is a very enjoyable way to spend your 40 hours of volunteer work and an impressive addition to your résumé.

If you would like to contact us to find out more about this program, please call the Odyssey Theatre office at 232-8407 or e-mail us at info@odysseytheatre.ca.
