THEATRE PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
Join our production team this summer as we return to live performance and celebrate our 37th season as Ottawa’s premiere open-air theatre. We produce award-winning mask and movement-based performances that blend classic and contemporary art forms and incorporate diverse theatrical traditions from around the world. Our Theatre Under the Stars series transforms Ottawa’s beautiful Strathcona Park into a theatre venue along the banks of the Rideau River that attracts thousands each year.
We are looking for a Production Assistant for our summer production of The Miser, by Molière, directed by Andy Massingham. The Miser is a wickedly clever satire about self-interest, greed and corruption in a modern consumer driven world. Rehearsals begin June 26, the production opens July 27 and runs until August 20.
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic person who has a passion for the arts, production experience and who is committed to contributing to the success of our 2023 season. Come join a dynamic and collaborative team, and spend the summer with Ottawa’s leading mask and movement theatre company.
During the rehearsal period, the Production Assistant works with the Stage Manager to help facilitate the rehearsal process and with the Production Manager to assist with technical and production needs. During the run, you will be running our production team and back stage area. The PA will also oversee the activities of our production Youth Apprentices.
Dates: June 21 – August 23, 2023 | Duration: 9 weeks, 6 days per week (40 hours) |
Salary: $ 680-700/week | Location: Arts Court (2 Daly Ave) and Strathcona Park (25 Range Rd) |
The successful candidate will have responsibility for the following tasks:
- Assist the Stage Manager and Director organize and run rehearsals
- Assist the Production Manager as required with technical set-up and strike
- Assist with finding/building props;
- Manage the backstage area (props, costumes, masks) during the performance period;
- Setting up production elements and facilitating costume changes;
- Manage the Theatre’s COVID protocol; and,
- Supervising 4-5 production Youth Apprentices.
The successful candidate must have:
- Careful attention to detail;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Positive, professional attitude;
- Ability to show initiative;
- Extremely dependable;
- Ability to work independently;
- Technical and theatre production experience or training;
- Collaborative team player.
A valid driver’s licence is required and access to a car is an asset.
