Join Odyssey Theatre for its 36thth (online) season as Ottawa’s premier professional summer theatre as a Production Assistant.

We are looking for a dedicated, creative and enthusiastic person with a passion for theatre and the arts who wants to be a part of producing our 2021 online theatre season. You will join a creative and collaborative team and gain experience with an award-winning professional theatre.

We are Ottawa’s award-winning mask and movement-based theatre. We blend classic and contemporary art forms and incorporate diverse cultures and traditions from around the world. Due to the pandemic, we are producing two online theatre series: a fantasy podcast and a web series on Commedia dell’Arte..

The Production Assistant will work with the Artistic Director and Stage Manager to assist with technical and production requirements of running online theatre programs, running rehearsals and script workshops online, revising scripts to incorporate sound cues and directions, and helping coordinate, schedule and manage the online requirements of our readings, events, podcasts and webinars.

Dates:  Immediately – to be negotiated Duration: 8 weeks (may be extended).
Salary: $525/week (35 hours/wk) Location: Remote

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist the Artistic Director and Stage Manager as required with virtual rehearsals and technical set-up of online events;
  • Manage the digital backstage during rehearsals, workshops and live programming;
  • Set up production elements;
  • Revise, format and distribute scripts to actors;
  • Source and organize props for sound effects;
  • Other related duties as required.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Training or experience in theatre or other performing arts (essential);
  • Knowledge of various social media and live streaming platforms;
  • Careful attention to detail;
  • Very strong organizational skills;
  • Positive, professional attitude to work with professional artists;
  • Ability to show initiative and extremely dependable;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Collaborative team player.
